Photographs from training

A few photographs were taken of crews practising with lay flat hose at the recent training session. Certainly good fun to be back training with high pressure and large volume hoses!

South Coogee hosted an Introduction to Fire Fighting/Bush Fire Fighting over the weekend 12 – 13 October. With Trainers participating from both South Coogee and Jandakot the new Fire Fighters were able to gain insight into safe fire operations.

The brigade welcomes our new Fire Fighters. With burns coming up in November we will be busy ensuring they are exposed to the equipment, the conditions, and the team in order to ensure success on the fire ground.

Summer is coming. Be Bush Fire Ready!

Don’t let the rain and ordinary weather fool you – summer is coming!

South Coogee Bush Fire Brigade is busily preparing our Fire Fighters for the upcoming season. For residents of Cockburn there is still a session remaining for the ‘Can You Do 72’ program – a great way to look at your own preparedness.

If you want to find out more information about the services available through the city please go to: http://www.cockburn.wa.gov.au/Council_Services/Emergency_Services/

Don’t forget that the Spring Fair at Manning Park is taking place on Sunday 27th October 2013. South Coogee BFB will be there and we will have Fire Fighters available to answer your questions should you have any.

New photos and video added

Check out the latest updates in the Gallery.

Firstly we have video taken in Prevelly as the fire front approached. Taken by Kieren Brown, it shows the noise and smoke that went with this out of control fire.

The next are photos taken by Dylan Richmond. A small fuel reduction burn on a cold winter morning, Dylan provided us with a selection of images that he took of the South Coogee Firies, our equipment and some fauna encountered.

South Coogee Annual General Meeting

The AGM was held on Wednesday 17th April in order to determine the management team for the following year and fire season.

Congratulations to the new and/or ongoing appointees to the various positions. This year will present many opportunities for development in training, capabilities, and inter-operability with other emergency organisations; so the management team will likely shoulder a hefty load of meetings, administration, emails and phone calls!

I look forward to working with the management committee, the appointed officers and fire fighters to make 2013/14 a great year for South Coogee.

Capt.

South Coogee Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade Annual General Meeting

A reminder that the Brigade will be holding its AGM this Wednesday the 17th of April 2013. This meeting will determine who will occupy the various management and administrative roles for the next 12 months. All members are encouraged to attend in order to have their say about who will serve them in the management team.

The meeting starts at 1900 sharp. All apologies or nominations in absentia should contact the Secretary prior to Wednesday.

On Sunday the 7th of April the annual Coogee Beach Festival will be taking place on the Coogee Beach Reserve, Powell Rd, Coogee (next to Coogee Beach Cafe). This year we are approaching the day a bit differently, with live demonstrations throughout the day of our equipment and vehicles.

So come along and say g’day! The rain looks to hold off until later in the afternoon, aside from the water we will throw in the air from the hoses and monitors during our demonstrations. For more information check out the link below. See you there!

South Coogee Bush Fire Brigade and John Williamson

On Saturday South Coogee members assisted the community as standby response for the fireworks display at the concert by country music legend John Williamson, hosted by the City of Cockburn at Hammond Park.

From all accounts it was an excellent evening. John was able to spend time with some of our Fire Fighters and have a quick look over the appliances that were there. He didn’t go away empty handed – John is now a proud recipient of a South Coogee Bush Fire Brigade shirt.

Hey true blue!!

John Williamson and the South Coogee Firies - sounds like the name of a band!!
